Accessibility Policy

North York Family Services is fully committed to providing services to individuals with disabilities with equitable access to care. This access will be provided in a manner that respects integration and equal opportunity.

Reasonable efforts will be made to ensure that:

  • Individuals with disabilities may use assistive devices, service animals, and support personnel as is necessary to access services at Family Clinical Counselling Services unless superseded by other legislation
  • Individuals with disabilities are provided equal opportunity to obtain, use, and benefits from the services with the agency
  • Communications with a person with a disability are conducted in a method that takes the individual’s disability into account

Anti-Violence Policy

Workplace Violence is prohibited by Canadian legislation. In keeping with its values and legal responsibilities as an employer, North York Family Services will take any complaint of violence in the workplace as a serious matter. 

North York Family Services is fully committed to providing a workplace and counseling environment that promotes professionalism and ethical behavior. North York Family Services will assess the risks of workplace violence that may arise from the nature of the workplace, in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. 

All clients, staff, volunteers, students, and community visitors of the agency have the right to enjoy an environment that is safe and free of any form of physical verbal or emotional violence. The agency actively promotes and practices zero tolerance for violent incidences and has procedures in place for dealing with these in an effective and timely manner should they arise.

North York Family Services is committed to adhering to the Ontario Human Rights Code. The code states that every person has the right to freedom from discrimination based on, race, ancestry, place of origin, color, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sexual orientation, sexual identification, age, marital status, family status, or disability. 

All clients, staff, volunteers’ students, and community visitors of the agency have the right to enjoy an environment that is freed of racism and other forms of discrimination. The agency actively promotes and practices zero tolerance for discriminatory and racist incidents and has procedures for dealing with these in an effective and timely manner should they arise. 

Privacy Policy

North York Family Services is bound by law and ethics to safeguard your privacy and the confidentiality of your personal information. 

This includes: 

  • Collecting information needed to help you with counseling goals. 
  • Keeping your file up to date and accurate. 
  • Safeguarding your information in our possession ensuring it is locked up and out of sight. 
  • Connecting with your counselor to discuss your counseling needs are conducted in a confidential setting. 
  • Sharing information with other persons outside of the Family Clinical Counselling Services is done with your signed consent or in situations where we are required by law to report – further clarification to be addressed in Agreement to Participate in Services. 
  • Retaining/destroying records in accordance with the law. 
  • The information you share assists our team of counselors to meet your treatment plan and counseling goals.
